Sweeping story of gangs fighting over the coal capital of the country, where rivalry and revenge cut deep, and 'coal'-blooded crimes are second nature. Shahid Khan is betrayed, and his sons and grandsons swear to avenge his dishonour and death. This one's a gang bang. Sorry, make that a gang bang-bang; because that's how this story explodes - with bullets, blasts and bust-ups. Throw in gallons of blood, body-counts and 'boom-boom', true Bihari ishtyle. It doesn't need coal to fuel this revenge drama. It fires on Anurag
Kashyap's penchant for the dark, dubious, deadly and daring. Starting in 1941, in the dusk of colonial India, in Wasseypur (Dhanbad), the land of coal and scrap trade, simmers an age-old hatred between Muslims and Muslims (Qureshis V/S Pathans). And the bloodbaths, power struggles, family feuds and gang wars rage over three generations.

ReplyDeleteThis is one bad movie in recent times..gangajal and omkara were too good..movie has been over streached..for long..time.. acting of manoj bajpai was good but the story was very slow..
ReplyDeletehats off to performance given by every actors & anurag kashyap
ReplyDeleteGood Movie, Great performance . A good watch this weekend.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work done by Anurag & Manoj Bajpayee...excellent movie. Keep it up......
ReplyDeletenot to be missed a must watch.
ReplyDeleteGreat performances by the actors and Manoj Bajpai is quite brilliant. Painstaking effort has been taken to make the setting look realistic and the gaali-galauch provides lots of comic relief (unintended?). Now if only there was more of a story to narrate, GOW would have been excellent.
ReplyDeleteI am Sure after watching this movie directors like Karan Johar n abbas mastan(I dont even recall thr names) and actors (SRKs,Akshays,Bachhans, abrahams and few of them who plays with shirt ka button, these days) will be ganging up to kill the cast n crew from Wasseypur.Coz if they dont,"Ye Log TO ,KEH KE LENGE" Bhai.
ReplyDeleteReally awesome movie....cant wait to watch 2nd part. What an entertaining story and wonderful acting by all the characters.Anurag Kashyap Rockks.....
ReplyDeleteAwesome movie .............. dont miss it ................ must watch ...........based on true story.......... This movie remains on ground throughout.......not flies into air like south indian movies.......... ............................jia he bihar ke laalaa........... mind it, its a rajni free movie hence no vulgarity
ReplyDeleteawesome movie but sometimes gaalis seems extra and yadav character of gow is a example of anurag kashyap's excellence. the yadav don't speak a single word but has a mega influence in film. teri ah ke loonga and bihari song are rocks
ReplyDeleteWhat i loved about the movie is the way all the ladies have performed ... be it Nagma Khatun or Durga , or Pravin ...sorry sorry Parvin ,,,, all have protayed bold and sexy and revolting in their own ways. Good to see women "bold and beautiful"
ReplyDeleteIt's the director's self-indulgence that comes in the way of this movie. It's not a bad one, agreed. But it's just too full of itself.
ReplyDeleteIt's 2 long, bt I lyk it. 1 of Kashyaps besttt work...
ReplyDeleteekdum stupid movie hai .... Anurag kashyap has gone mad or what !! ..what was there in the movie to see ... and y the name gangs of wasseypur ..when all u have to show is some crazy events ..which were forcefully connected .. Sorry Mr. Director .. who have lost it. And it is nothing in comparison to Tarantino movies... I read some reviews mentioning it and the sole reason for seeing this movie .... Please give a miss to this stupid movie ... people are alive after taking 100 bullets in their chest and head .... Does the directors see the movie once they have made .. or is it like college assignments ..tht once done .. no student ever reviews it ..
ReplyDelete@Rohit@rohit , have i ever see a person with 100 bullets on his chest, so den shut up, cinema is not real, if u want to see reality den go watch docu, memntries,
ReplyDelete@RohitYah agree with you. Really Stupid movie from Anurag Kashyap and caused headache after watching like No Smoking. Film should have been named "Life & wives of Sardar Khan" instead of Gangs of Wasseypur. Thank God Timangshu Dhulia did not name Paan Singh Tomar as Bandits of Chambal. Only style and artistic treatment does not make a classic, content and gripping & tight screenplay is more important.
ReplyDeleteGangs of Wasseypur is a revenge saga with full ingredients of action, romance and music in Kashyap's style. Each actor did justice to their roles but Manoj Bajpai was undoubtedly the show stealer. Tigmanshu Dhulia never looked like a debutant. Effort has been taken to show things in details and using filthy language. Narration of the movie by Piyush Mishra was an icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteAnurag Kashyap what a terrific Climax. Manoj bajpai profusely bleeding from several bullet shots holding his head with his right hand and a gun in his left hand and background music playing (Jiya ho bihar ke lala......tani nachi gayi sabke mann behlawo re bhaiya). What an idea Sirji.Years ago I made people dance on the train. Now inspired by GOW's climax I shall complete the choreography and expect a dying man do some dancing and singing and entertain everyone in my next film as your lyrics suggest.
ReplyDeletemovie is really nice .. start till end dishaw dishaw... full timepass and paisa wasool.. waitg now desperatly for next part...
ReplyDeleteThe movie beautifully depicts such realistic characters & dialogues.. you feel so connected to the movie.. Awesome direction Anurag..
ReplyDeleteI havent watched both the movies - Teri meri Kahani and GOW.From The comments I am sure that GOW is far better if you are fine with Action and Galizzz. I got more knowlege from the comments rather than the Review of TOI. I liked GON Vs GOW in the comments :)
ReplyDeleteMovie is bit gory alright but gives a bizarre peek into the coal shenanigans of Bihar/Jharkhand which I have been curious to know ever since I learnt to read a newspaper! There is realism into who and how things are controlled in the notorious Dhanbad area. Definitely not a family movie but for curious 'jacks' and 'jills' to get education on 'Biharwaa'
